Last month, our home care agency in Vancouver wrote to you with information about the CoVID-19 virus. Although the threat remains low in Canada, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the virus a pandemic.  Older adults and people with underlying health conditions, such as diabetes, lung disease, or heart disease, are however at larger risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

The only effective way to protect yourself from the virus is to follow these 5 simple tips:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when unwell.
  • Cover all sneezes and coughs with a tissue.
  • Get vaccinated against pneumonia and influenza.

The WHO frequently posts regular updates regarding the virus on its website. It also has important information regarding how to control the virus when infection is suspected. It also published a great resource with instructions for home care solution for patients with suspected (nCOV).

All Ace Personnel staff have been educated on the risks of the corona virus. Our home care agency in Vancouver is working diligently with the B.C. public health to ensure the health and safety of all our clients and staff members. We follow all routine precautions as well as take contact, droplet, and airborne precautions when providing care, including hand hygiene and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

Symptoms of COVID-19

Those who are infected with COVID-19 may have very little symptoms, if any. You may not know you have symptoms of COVID-19 because they mimic that of a common cold or flu.

It is also important to note that symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure. Symptoms may include:

  • fever
  • cough
  • difficulty breathing
  • pneumonia in both lungs
  • In severe cases, infection can lead to death.

If you are ill and must leave the house (i.e., to visit a family physician), call ahead or tell them when you arrive that you have a respiratory illness. You may be asked to wear a mask while waiting for or receiving treatment to prevent the spread of the illness.

Ace Personnel is a family owned and operated service founded in 1977 by Diane Anderson (“Mrs. A”). It began as a home-based business and has since been devoted to helping the local community with childcare and home care solutions. She took time to get to know her each of her clients and as a result developed lasting relationships with many of them.
