The intimate relationship that forms between the Caregiver and the Care-Receiver is almost always complex.  Proper etiquette – which is about making others feel comfortable can go a long way toward ensuring that the Care – Receiver’s dignity remains intact.

Some Tips:

  • Show RESPECT by limiting use of cell phones – texting, emailing, and computer use during work hours to only necessary use.
  • Include Care-Receiver in conversation – don’t talk about them as though they are not in the room.
  • Be a good LISTENER.
  • Don’t crticize Care-Receivers for forgetfuness or for other’s behaviours that accompany aging.
  • Express your warmth and care.
  • Practice your coping skills in order to maintain your professionalism.
  • SMILE – Be a good friend and companion.
