The intimate relationship that forms between the Caregiver and the Care-Receiver is almost always complex. Proper etiquette – which is about making others feel comfortable can go a long way toward ensuring that the Care – Receiver’s dignity remains intact.
Some Tips:
- Show RESPECT by limiting use of cell phones – texting, emailing, and computer use during work hours to only necessary use.
- Include Care-Receiver in conversation – don’t talk about them as though they are not in the room.
- Be a good LISTENER.
- Don’t crticize Care-Receivers for forgetfuness or for other’s behaviours that accompany aging.
- Express your warmth and care.
- Practice your coping skills in order to maintain your professionalism.
- SMILE – Be a good friend and companion.
